The RoXdon
THE CRAZY LoFi Cassette Loop Tape Machine has been designed to easily create
Cassette Loop Tapes from various audio inputs. Nothing else on the
planet can achieve what the RoXdon THE CRAZY can do. Truly a Crazy device
in looks and functionality!
Using a
standard cassette recorder is not ideal as there are many difficulties
especially as the erase head is always engaged during recording so there
will always be an audible gap. On THE CRAZY the erase head is disconnected
during the loop recording mode so there will be no gap.
The other important feature of our unit is the addition of a speed control
(ACCELERATE) which
can provide smooth control of the tape speed.
NEW
FEATURES:
THE CRAZY now comes fitted with a TAPE RUN switch together with a NUDGE
button. This can be utilised during recording or playback. Switching the
TAPE RUN switch to off will enable the NUDGE button to switch the
cassette motor on when pressed and off when released. This action is
different to that of using the PAUSE switch which disengages the pinch
roller and stops and starts the tape movement abruptly. With the
NUDGE action the tape has to speed up to the set ACCELERATE setting and
slow down to stop the tape movement.
Another additional function is a KILL button which cuts the audio output. This can be used on playback to
create a Staccato effect.
THE CRAZY
has two 1/4" jack sockets on the rear for Input and Output
connections. The Red BLAST knob controls the output volume.
There are
four input options for recording loops by selecting different positions
on the slider switch on the left side of the unit:
Position
1
will select the USB input socket for recording Audio Files via a USB playback device
or a BLUETOOTH input option ie.phone or bluetooth player.
Position 2 will
select the LINE INPUT with the ability to connect
Drum Machines, Synthesizers etc..
Position 3
will select the onboard lofi microphone and is also used to hear the
final loop playback.
Position 4
will switch the unit OFF.
The keys
function of the unit are ERASE, LOOP, STOP and PAUSE.
Recordings can
be made using RoXdon Loop Tapes available in 5, 8 and 30
second lengths.
Recordings
are made as follows:
1. First select the input you are going to use.
2. Press the LOOP key which starts the tape moving.
3. Adjust the ACCELERATE control for the desired speed.
4. Press the front white RECORD button.
5. After recording, select position 3 to hear the resulting playback.
The RECORD button operates
a momentary record switch so releasing the button stops the recording
action. While the tape is playing you can punch in and out of the record
mode, alter the tape speed (pitch) and overdub (sound on sound) recordings already made.
This can create some interesting effects, together with complete mash-ups. Simple
drone loop effects can be created with the ability to alter the pitch to
any key requirement. By pausing the tape then changing the tape speed,
the pitch will change on playback...
Recording at higher speeds will improve the quality.
You can of
course use any standard cassette tape to produce a sound tape.
The red
erase key is only used to completely erase a tape.
Note: THE
CRAZY is a lofi mono device that uses a single head for record and playback
so during recording the playback on tape cannot be heard.
THE CRAZY
is supplied with a 6v DC UK Power Supply or an International power
supply for USA, EU and Australia orders plus a free 5 second RoXdon Loop Tape
to get you started.
